Big Shoes to Fill

Will has an addiction these days. It is to wear mommy and daddy's shoes. He likes to put his tiny feet in our shoes after we take them off and try to walk around the house. He goes at snail's pace, but he some how manages to walk. He say, "wook out momma, wook out." As he is walking towards me. I could probably take a cap nap before he got to me. It makes him a happy baby to wear our shoes so he can keep them on his feet as long as he wants to.

These babies never cease to amaze me.

How Much is that Baby in the Window?

For the past week or so Jake and Will have roomtime/quiet time in their playroom for one hour. I put the gate up and turn the tv off and they just play together (or fight together). At first I felt bad about doing this, but then I realized I am putting them in a room full of nothing but toys. That is pretty nice actually.

In this hour time span I get more stuff done than I do the entire rest of the day. I shower, put some laundry in, unload the dishwasher, make beds, etc. I am going full speed for an hour straight. It is so worth it though.

Yesterday, I put the kids in the play room for roomtime just as bobby was leaving to go to work. He told me bye gave me a kiss and was on his way. I was starting to unload the dishwasher when the phone rang. It was Bobby. I was curious what he could already need, but I answered it anyway.

He said, "um, you might want to peek in the playroom and look at Will." I could barely understand Bobby because he was laughing so hard.

I go and look in the playroom and Will has moved the blinds and is standing on the window sill with his face and his belly smushed against the window.

Bobby said it looked like he was saying, "help me, help me, she has locked us in here."

It was hilarious. I said,"Will" and he hopped down with a red nose and all.

So, if you drive by my house and you see a baby standing in the window sill don't think anything about it. We are just having roomtime and Will wants to escape.

The Perfect Day

It is hard to say that you have a perfect day when you are raising two toddlers. However, today has just been perfect in our little world. We got up (early of course) Bobby made breakfast, we went to church (our pastor had a great message), kids took naps, I went to a luncheon, and Bobby took the kids to a birthday party. Yes, all by himself. I met him there after my luncheon was over. We then came home and Bobby cooked dinner and we had a fire going while watching the playoff football game.

It seems like we have just spent such quality time together. We played with the kids and read books.

Days like today really make you realize just how blessed we are. I am going back in the living room to help Bobby clean up.

Life is GOOD!!!

Pajama Day

I have officially declared it a pajama day at our house. Bobby and I are the only ones who got dressed today. It has been raining and yucky all day long. The kids have not been out of their "jommies" as Jake calls them all day long. Tommorrow it is supposed to be cold again. Wish I could pull off another pajama day, but we have to go to church and a birthday party.

I am looking at the weather to see when it is supposed to rain again so we can have another pajama day with mom and dad included.

Conversations with Jake

My three year old cracks me up on a daily basis. He is so interested in the world around him these days and why things happen the way that they do. I could just sit and watch him all day long and smile at all the cute, sweet things he does. He does not have a worry in the world. He is always coming up to me and asking,

"Momma, why we go to Walmart?"

"We have to get groceries and a few other things for the house."

"What utter things?"

"Sprite, cookies, bananas, and some food to cook for dinner."

"I like prite, and cookies, and nanas, and dinner."

You get the picture. He is so innocent with his questions. If I ask him a question he always responds with, "no momma, I a big boy." Even if I ask him if he is cold or hungry.

Jake also gives me the thumbs up when he likes something or wants to do what I asked him to do. I have not been given a thumbs up in a long time especially from a toddler.

I am a believer in what goes around comes around because I ask more questions than the man on the moon. I can't help it I am interested in the story and I feel like people leave out half of it. I guess I will be telling people what my mom always told people when I was little and kept asking questions, "that is how she learns."

This is "how jake is learning."

It seems like Jake is going to inherit my nickname as a child.... 20 questions.

Truth vs Reality

There are few things I know for sure, but here are a couple of things that you can bet the ranch on....cash in the mortgage and put it all on red....these are SURE things I tell you. Here goes:

(a) Your infant/toddler/child will ALWAYS get sick just after the doctor's office has closed up shop for the day and all the doctors have left the building. In fact, you will be on the phone trying to get them and they can probably hear the phone ringing as they laugh and lock the door.

(b) Your infant/toddler/child's temperature will never be higher than it is at 4:30 am and they will also always wait until said time to throw up/choke up/ spin head 180 degrees and spit up peas. You will then be forced to decide whether to join all the drug deal gone bad shooting victims at the hospital emergency room or wait another 3 1/2 hours to call the pediatrician.

(c) You will call the Dr. and they will want you to come in. You will drag your sick child and your cross-eyed self out the door without a shower, hoping that you managed to at least brush your teeth, only to realize that you didn't so the smashed piece of gum in the bottom of your purse will just have to do. You will tell the Dr. all of the horrible symptoms and frighteningly high fever your child has had for 24 hours, only to have them look at your child now doing cartwheels and singing Miss Pattycake songs and then check her temperature to find it's 98.6. They will look at the child's ears/throat/nose as you're secretly hoping (and this is warped I know) that they will find SOMETHING to prove you are not a delusional liar. In other words, once you are at the Dr.'s office the child will be have been cured. It's a miracle.

I took Jake and Will both to the doctor on Friday morning. They both got their finger pricked and Jake also got his flu shot. He was not too happy. For the rest of the day Jake kept saying

"Momma, I go to da doctor and dey hurt me."

It was so sad, but I knew it was for his own good. I told Bobby before Jakes goes to kindergarten and has to get more shots he is the lucky one who has been nominated to take him.

Bobby says, "um, I have to work that day."

Ok, but it is 2 1/2 years from now, I will have to work too.

Coach Potatoes

Jake and Will got these two chairs for Christmas and they love them. We have had some lazy days with our new chairs. Jake likes to cover up and watch a movie every night before he goes to bed. Will thinks they are a wrestling mat and likes to jump on and over his. However, they like to use them is fine with me. As long as I am not involved in the wrestling match with Will.

I have even caught Bobby laying in the floor resting his head on the chairs.

Translator Wanted??

I am looking for a translator for my 18 month old boy. He is putting two words together and we can understand what he is saying most of the time. However, we are really puzzled by this one word that he says all day everyday.

Will says, "Si-ba-duh."

He always says, "bye bye momma, hi daddy, no no dake, ok it-e, dbd woo-hoo" and so forth. He is doing great with his short sentences.

I have even tried to notice if we are in a specific situation and he says "si-ba-duh" or if he is pointing to the same things and saying it. Neither one of the above tactics have helped us.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to let us know!!

Haircuts

On Friday I decided that the boys both needed a haircut. I had waited long enough for them to have it done. I dread it because it is awful and they are not usually good. Jake will cry then Will gets upset. It is like herding cats with socks on in the rain. NOT FUN!!

However, my mother-in-law went with me to get their hair cut. We each had one of the kids in our laps and we gave them a treat and a book to entertain them during the ordeal. Much to my surprise they did great.

Will sat in my lap almost frozen. He could not figure out what was going on and Jake was giving the hair dresser the evil scowl. It was too funny.

Maybe from now on they will remember this experience and do great and maybe I will not let them look like tree huggers with hair down past their shoulders before I take them again.

Happy New Year

We feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful year during 2007. We had many changes in our lives, but it has all worked out for the best!!! We moved to the city we live in now. We love it over here so much. It is a perfect place to have a family and to raise kids. We do not have any family over here, but we love it. It really has given us the opportunity to depend on each other, start our own family traditions, and to learn and explore a new city with each other.

On New Year's Eve we went over to our friend's house. They have two boys who are Jake and Will's age. We ate dinner and shot fireworks in their yard. We all had so much fun. The kids played very hard and everyone slept in the next morning. I was laying in my bed reading my book at midnight. Bobby and I kissed for the New Year and we were snoring shortly there after.

We hope 2008 is as wonderful as last year. We pray for love, health, and happiness for us and all our family and friends.

Santa Clause

Will decided he would walk around today wearing his santa hat. Jake kept saying, "hey santa, hey."

It was so funny because Will is not exactly slim and trim. It looked like he had the belly and all of Santa.

We can not wait for Christmas again next year.
